Introduction to the Family Reunification Immigration Program

Canada's Family Reunification policy is designed to help permanent residents and citizens settled in Canada reunite with their families. The following are some policies for Canadian citizens applying for family reunification:

    1.  Type of family member: Sponsors may apply to invite their spouse or partner, minor children, parents or grandparents to Canada to join them.

    2.  Eligibility of a Sponsor: To become a sponsor, you must be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and have had sufficient income in the past 12 months to support the sponsor in Canada. In this case, the sponsor will need to provide financial information to prove that they have sufficient financial resources to support the family member they sponsor.

    3.  Eligibility of spouse or partner: The sponsor's spouse or partner needs to prove that they have been married or cohabited with the sponsor for at least one year and that they intend to settle in Canada.

    4.  Eligibility of children: Sponsors may invite their minor children into Canada as long as they are not married or living together, and they can provide documentation and information to prove that they have adequate care and financial support.

    5.  ligibility of parents and grandparents: Sponsors may invite their parents or grandparents into Canada, as long as they can provide relevant documentation and information to prove that they have adequate care and financial support.

It is important to note that the number of family reunification immigrants admitted to Canada each year is limited.
