2023 Passport Power Rankings Revealed, Australia Ranks Eighth
The 2023 Henley & Partners passport rankings show that Australian passport holders can enter 185 countries without a visa or with a visa on arrival, ranking eighth with Canada, Greece and Malta; while US and British passports still rank sixth and third seven.
The passport ranking shows the direct relationship between passport strength and economic strength, and it seems increasingly unlikely that the US and UK passports will take the top spot as they did in 2014.
While Japan has imposed strict travel restrictions during the pandemic and only opened to international travelers last October, Japanese passports remain popular around the world.
Holders of Japanese passports can enter 85% of the world's countries without a visa or with a visa on arrival. The GDP of these countries accounts for 98% of the global economy, and Japan's own GDP contributes about 5%.
Rankings based on passport popularity have been published since 2018.
