Holders of Singapore passports can use the automatic gate at the second checkpoint in Johor Bahru to enter the country from now on
Malaysian Home Affairs Minister Saifuddin announced on Friday (January 20) that people holding Singapore passports can use the automatic gates at the Johor-Singapore Causeway Johor Bahru checkpoint and the Singapore-Malaysia Second Corridor checkpoint to enter the country from now on.
Saifuddin went to the Sultan Iskandar Building where the Johor-Singapore Causeway Johor Bahru checkpoint is located at 5 o'clock in the morning on Friday to inspect the customs clearance situation before the Chinese Lunar New Year. He said that only Malaysian passport holders could use the automatic customs clearance system, but considering There is a huge flow of people at the Johor Bahru checkpoint. Therefore, after much discussion, the relevant authorities decided to open the automatic gate (E-Gate) to people holding Singapore passports.
He said that if people holding Singapore passports want to use the automatic gates, they must ensure that their passports are electronic passports (e-passports) embedded with chips that store personal biometric authentication data, and that the passports are valid for at least three months. They must also fill in and submit Malaysia's e-arrival card online three days before entering Johor. If it is the first time to use the automatic gate, you must also go to the counter of the Immigration Bureau to make a one-time biometric authentication record.
He pointed out that there are currently 40 automatic customs clearance systems at the Johor Bahru checkpoint, that is, there are 20 for each entry and exit, and the Immigration Bureau will add 20 within this year, and the relevant procedures are in progress.
