The two checkpoints at Kuala Lumpur Airport and Johor South have additional "Quick Response Team" personnel to shorten the customs clearance time
In order to shorten the customs clearance time for inbound and outbound passengers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Johor Bahru checkpoint and Singapore-Malaysia second channel checkpoint, the Malaysian Immigration Bureau has decided to send additional Quick Response Team (QRT) personnel to support during peak hours to improve the efficiency of customs clearance for passengers at the checkpoint.
Immigration Director Khairul told the media after inspecting the customs clearance at Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Wednesday (February 1) that 30 rapid response team members had been dispatched to two international airports in Kuala Lumpur on Wednesday. He said that next Monday (6th) the Immigration Department will also send 40 additional personnel to the Johor Bahru checkpoint and the Zhenlingshan checkpoint of the Singapore-Malaysia Second Link.
Khairul said that 30 personnel from the rapid response team began to support the 26 immigration counters at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport on Wednesday, and the support hours were from 2 pm to 8 pm every day. These officers will be on duty at the otherwise vacant counters.
He said that Prime Minister Anwar last week ordered the Immigration Bureau and the Customs Department to deploy additional personnel at the Johor Bahru and Gelang Patah checkpoints to solve the problem of long queues of inbound passengers. He revealed that the Immigration Department has decided to fully open all immigration counters during peak hours.
He also said that the records of the Immigration Bureau showed that there were 495,210 tourists entering Malaysia in January, an average of 665 people entering Malaysia every hour. He revealed that after the deployment of rapid response team personnel, the number of tourist arrivals increased to an average of 780 per hour, which is equivalent to 13 per minute.
