Spanish immigration law on the road to reform will allow international students to work
China Overseas Chinese Network, June 6. According to the "European Times" Spanish version of the WeChat public account "Xiwen", Spain's new immigration regulation reform draft aims to promote industries with low employment rates, accept foreign immigrants who have undergone vocational training, and allow Work for foreign students, encourage foreign citizens to start businesses, etc.
The report quoted local media sources that the Spanish Cabinet of Ministers has agreed to authorize emergency administrative procedures to amend the regulations of the Law on the Rights and Freedoms of Foreigners in Spain and their Social Integration, so as to simplify the procedures required for foreigners to work in Spain.
Inclusion, Social Security and Immigration Minister José Luis Escriva said, "We are working on the second draft reform of the foreign immigration regulations, and the current procedures are so bureaucratic that the current regulations are not flexible enough to Respond to the conditions that arise in the labor market. We will address them through reforms and the creation of new mechanisms that will benefit tens of thousands of foreign workers and facilitate their entry into the Spanish labor market.”
The new draft reform of immigration regulations will allow foreign students to work, and continue to expand the scope of hiring labor from the origin of foreign immigrants, benefiting labor other than temporary workers.
It is reported that since Escriva took office, he has planned to make model changes to the Aliens Law during his tenure to strengthen the channels for foreign immigrants to legally enter Spain. The minister has repeatedly said that Spain's existing residence system is "complex and fragmented", which is why during his tenure he promised to simplify the "excessive heterogeneity" of residence permits. At the same time, the minister made clear his economic goals, insisting that immigration is needed to maintain the labor market and the welfare state.
The Spanish National Bureau of Statistics announced on June 3 the data on the number of foreigners living in Spain and acquiring citizenship in 2021, reaching 144,000, an increase of 14% over 2020 and the highest number since 2016.
