Stadthuys
The Red House is a red building left in Malacca during the Dutch colonial period. It was built in 1650 and is the oldest Dutch building in Southeast Asia. The Red House used to be the residence of the Dutch governor and the administrative center of the Dutch in the 18th century. Later, it changed hands and became the administrative center of the British. Now it is the Malacca Museum, which exhibits historical relics of the Malacca Dynasty, the Netherlands, Britain and Portugal. Although the brick walls, windows and doors of this building are all in the Dutch style, the top floor, which used to be the bedroom of the former governor, is full of decorations from Chinese mythology.
The museum in the Red House is actually divided into six museums, displaying different historical relics, so it is called "Stadthuys Museums Complex", and one ticket can visit all the museums. Museum Sejarah dan Etnografi (Museum of History and Ethnology) displays the cultural relics of the ancient Malacca dynasty, where you can have a deeper understanding of the royal family, currency, navigation, and wedding customs in Malacca and even Malaysia. There are also five smaller museums: Museum Sastera (Museum of Art), Galeri Laksamana Cheng Ho (Museum of Zheng He), Museum Pemerintahan Demokrasi (Museum of Democracy), Museum T.Y.T (Museum about Muslims) and Museum Pendidikan (Museum of Education) museum).
