Greek authorities push "digital work card" to census employees of private companies, and use digital ID documents to handle business
From November 1st, Greece will implement the second phase of enabling the "digital work card". Employers of all enterprises in Greece need to use this electronic card to record working hours for employees.
Greece's "digital work card" has been launched since July 1. More than 120,000 employees of banks and large supermarket chains have used this digital work card to record commute and overtime hours. The Greek Ministry of Labor has reviewed the companies that use the "digital work card" in the first phase since October 1, and will impose penalties if violations are found.
This "digital work card" launched by the Greek Ministry of Labor can be downloaded from the Ministry of Labor's website "myErgani". The app will connect employees, employers and labor regulators to record and display each employee's working hours, overtime, and shifts. , remote work, days off and holidays. Employees can record commute and commute time by "swiping their cards".
According to the plan, the use of the "digital work card" will be extended to all Greek companies by the end of 2023. Therefore, the Greek Ministry of Labor will conduct a census of employees in Greek private companies from November 1st to November 30th, and register all private companies. Salaried employee profiles, preparing for the full application of the "digital job card".
In addition, according to the joint ministerial decision issued on October 28, from November 1, Greek citizens will be able to use digital ID cards and digital driving licenses when conducting business with banks and financial institutions, as well as mobile and fixed-line telecommunications companies.
This follows the Greek government’s launch on July 27 of a new app that allows users to create, store and verify digital copies of ID cards and driving licenses on their mobile phones through the gov.gr Wallet e-wallet. Digital ID cards and digital driving licenses stored in the gov.gr e-wallet are fully equivalent to paper versions and cover all legal purposes in Greece. However, digital documents are not valid overseas and therefore cannot be used as travel documents.
