Visa and entry requirements for Grenada

Visa Entry

According to the bilateral agreement, Chinese citizens holding diplomatic and service passports are exempted from visas when visiting Grenada.  Holders of other types of passports to Grenada must apply for a visa through the Grenada embassy or consulate abroad or apply for a visa on arrival at the Grenada Immigration Bureau. Holders of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region passport can enter Grenada visa-free and stay for half a year.

Special reminder: The Grenada Embassy in China does not currently have the conditions to apply for a visa.  It entrusts the British Embassy in China to apply for a visa to Grenada.

The customs and epidemic prevention

Inbound travelers are allowed duty free to bring 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars or 250 grams of tobacco, 1 liter of alcohol, 10 liquid ounces of perfume and anything worth up to 300 East Caribbean dollars (US $112) for personal use.  Narcotics, guns and ammunition, plants, fruits and vegetables, etc. are not allowed to be carried by passengers entering or leaving the country.

Special reminder: The airport customs will carefully check the luggage of passengers. Inbound and outbound passengers should not carry more than US$10,000 in cash.  No more than 100ml of liquid should be carried by passengers leaving the country by plane.  Grenada implements a high tariff policy, and customs clearance procedures for goods can be completed by entrusting local agents.

Residence & Naturalization

Citizenship and immigration policy: The Grenada Constitution does not provide for dual citizenship.  Foreigners of Grenada descent, who has married to a Grenada citizens or have resided in Grenada for more than 5 years and have the right of permanent residence in Grenada may apply for the Grenada citizenship.

Foreigner’s residence policy and related procedures: Foreign citizens must apply for a working permit to work in Grenada. The working permit, issued annually by the Grenada Ministry of Labor, varies by country and costs US$1,841 per visit for Chinese.  Foreigners who have resided in Grenada for more than two years are eligible to apply for long-term residency in Grenada.

Products and Price of Commodities

1. Main products: spices such as nutmeg, seafood such as grouper, tuna, lobster, rum, cocoa and various fresh fruits and vegetables.

2. Prices: The vast majority of goods and materials rely on imports, so the prices are very high, equivalent to 5-10 times the price in China.

3. Currency and exchange rate: The legal tender is the East Caribbean dollar.  U.S. dollars can be exchanged for East Caribbean dollars at all banks.  The cash ratio is 1 (USD): 2.67 (EC), and the traveler’s check ratio is 1: 2.68. U.S. dollars can be used universally, but the price ratio offered by stores is generally 1:2.60.  Euros and British pounds can also be exchanged at various banks, and the exchange rate fluctuates with the US dollar.

4. Tax burden: Property transfer tax (5-15%),  property tax (0.1-0.5%),  corporate tax (30%),  individual income tax (30%),  withholding tax (15%),  stamp duty (0.25-0.5%),  common external tariff,  customs service fee (5%), environmental tax (0.25-30%),  value-added tax (10-15%).  In accordance with the provisions of the government in individual cases, individual types of taxes can be reduced or exempted.  Read more here.

5. Terms of payment: Eastern Caribbean dollars, US dollars in cash or by cheque.  Credit and debit CARDS of all kinds are also more common.

6. Banking and Financial Services: There are five Banks in Grenada providing financial services such as deposit and loan, remittance, currency exchange, etc.  There are also two policy Banks (offices), the Office of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank and the Grenada Cooperative Bank.  

Medical Insurance

Medical conditions: Grenada public hospitals provide free medical care, but the efficiency is low, the facilities are outdated, the doctors are not skilled, and some departments lack doctors.  Private hospitals provide better services, but the costs are high.  On average, Grenada has one surgeon for every 1,275 people, one nurse for every 410 people, and one hospital bed for every 300 people.

　　Medical insurance: The Grenada government implements a national insurance plan, which provides sickness insurance, maternity insurance, work-related injury insurance, endowment insurance, disability insurance, widowhood life insurance, funeral insurance, sickness insurance, regular care insurance, and housing loan insurance.

　　Common diseases and treatment: It is located in the tropics, with dengue fever, yellow fever, influenza and other diseases.  There is no widespread epidemic of infectious diseases and no avian influenza.  Grenada is a country with a high incidence of AIDS.

Main hospitals and pharmacies: There are four national hospitals in Grenada, St. George General Hospital, St. Andrew’s Princess Alice Hospital, Royal Princess Cariacou Hospital and St. George Psychiatric Hospital; there are six health centers and 30 regional medical facilities Station; in addition to all kinds of private clinics and pharmacies.
