Alexander Nevsky Cathedral
The second largest cathedral in the Balkans and the second largest Orthodox church, it is located in the square of the same name in the center of Sofia. It was built for the "liberation" of Bulgaria by the Russian army in the Russo-Turkish War of 1877-1878. It is said that starting from 1909, it took 10 years to complete. The church is named after Tsar Alexander II of Russia. Most of the holy images and murals in the church are works of Russian painters. The church is made of Italian marble, with emerald green, black, blue, purple, agate and other colors, crystal clear and clean. The church is a building of Byzantine and Bulgarian architectural styles, and its large gilded dome can be seen from all over the city of Sofia.
