Mykonos
Mykonos is a small island in the eastern part of the Cyclades archipelago in the Aegean Sea. It belongs to Greece. It is located between the islands of Tinos and Naxos, near the island of Delos. An area of 85 square kilometers (33 square miles), composed of granite. The earliest inhabitants were the Ionians. During the Greek War of Independence, the islanders repelled a Turkish attack. There are many churches and monuments on the island. The soil is poor, there is little water, and there is little agriculture. The main crops are barley, grapes, and figs. Manganese ore is produced. Tourism is the main economic activity.
