Archaeological Sites of Mycenae and Tiryns
The archaeological site of Mycenae and Tiryns, located in the northeast of the Peloponnese Peninsula, 9 miles from the Saronic Gulf of the Aegean Sea and 6 miles north of Argos, is a 3,700-year-old royal city. In 1999, UNESCO included the archaeological sites of Mycenae and Tiryns as cultural heritage and included them in the World Heritage List.
Mycenae and Tinayans are the two greatest cities of the Mycenaean civilization, and their ruins are also magnificent. From the 15th century BC to the 12th century BC, the Mycenaean civilization prevailed in the eastern Mediterranean and played an important role in the development of ancient Greek culture. The two cities are also closely associated with Homer's Iliad and Odyssey, which influenced European art and literature for more than 3,000 years.
