Amman Xingdu Temple
Located at No. 244, Qiaonan Road, the Hindu Temple in Amman, Mali is located in the heart of Chinatown (Chinatown) and is the oldest Hindu temple in Singapore. The history of the temple can be traced back to 1827, when it was founded by Naraina Pillai, a well-known Indian businessman in Singapore. The temple mainly serves Singaporeans of Hinduism in Tamil, South India.
The gate of the temple is carved with colorful Hindu gods, animals, people, etc., adding a strange atmosphere to the Chinatown, a Chinese community. On the tower inside the gate, there are lifelike statues of various gods and holy beasts, which can be seen clearly from a distance.
The temple is full of incense, offering sacrifices continuously throughout the year. Before entering the temple, believers will ring the bell at the door to pray for the gods to allow them to enter, and then wash their hands and feet and sprinkle water on their heads to make themselves more pure. After the ceremony, they will enter the temple to worship. Here, you can also see believers knocking on coconuts in the aluminum circle near the door, which symbolizes knocking on the souls of believers, while the milky coconut heart shows the purity and kindness of the faithful.
